Pumpkin Time!

We picked pumpkins today! It's a little early but I didn't have much choice. My 2 dogs (in the background) broke through the garden fence to eat the cucumbers a month ago. In there quest for crunchy garden treats, they trampled all the pumpkin plants. All of the vines are now dead, so we had to cut the pumpkins before we lost them too! And yes, the dogs even ate a few of the smaller pumpkins! LOL!

We were able to get 27 pumpkins from our small little patch we planted. This was our first year we've tried them. I SEVERELY underestimated the real estate they were going to need. They completely grew outside the garden fence! It was a jungle!

We will save a few for Halloween/Fall decorations but the rest are destined to be made into fresh pumpkin pies!!! OOOHHH YEAH!! My mouth is watering just thinking about a home made, fresh ~NOT FROM A CAN~ pumpkin pie! And I know if my Mom is reading this...hers is watering too. I made one last year and shared some with her! It was an awesome pie!
But for now, they are all lined up on the railing safe and sound from the dogs! :)
Have a wonderful day!

Bad Doggies...Those pumpkins are beautiful!! You most definately have a green thumb. Cute toting them in the wagon. Those pumpkin pies sound wonderful. Watch out for those pumpkins on the railing.

Sounds like a fun day for you. Thanks for sharing with us.

Sue, only you would have VEGETARIAN dogs! My dogs wouldn't took a cucumber unless it smell and tasted like a "Pup-a-roni".

You have a unique family!

I have my plane ticket purchased and ready whenever you have those pies baked. I love pumpkins. I am not going to tell you how many I have in my house right now, cause you wouldn't believe it. lol There is just something about a pumpkin that makes me smile. I miss the pumpkin patches we used to go to in Connecticut. Every Halloween I bake a Shepard's pie inside a pumpkin for dinner. It is awesome. The pumpkin just peals right off the outside.

Any chance you'd care to share your homemade pumpkin pie recipe with the rest of us? I'd love to try making one from scratch, but haven't done so because I don't have a good recipe. Pumpkin is my favourite pie too!
