Rest in Peace, My Big Boy

Riley
8/18/97 - 4/12/11

We had the most sunny, warm day today.  We knew it was nearing time to put our beloved 13.5 year old boy down.  We've never put an animal down before and just lost his 12 year old sister this past Christmas Eve.  We were not looking forward to this.  My husband called the vet to see if he could arrange him coming to our home to put Riley down.  Our dear vet said since he had taken care of Riley all these years, he owed it to him to come to him.  On this most beautiful day, our Riley laid his head down and closed his eyes forever.

We love you big boy!  Give Madie Girl a slobbery kiss from us and stay out of God's garbage can...He won't tolerate it like I did.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Pets are almost like losing a child. We sure do form some strong bonds with them. You did the right thing with not prolonging his suffering. My thoughts are with you.

So sorry. We had to do that to our 18 year old Cairn Terrier Logan a few years ago and it's tough. Sounds like you had a great vet.

I'm so sorry Sue. Putting my Annabelle down was one of the hardest things I've ever done, even though she was so sick. They really do become part of the family!

Oh, I'm so sorry Sue. I've lost two dogs in the past 3 years, so I know what your going through. It's hard when you spend such a huge part of your life with them. I wish dogs lived as long as cats do.

So sorry for your lose :( My daughter had a chihuaua mix since she was 5 and 1yr.ago we too had to put him down. I felt so horrible seeing the pain in her eyes. It's still very sad when we think about him. He was a great little dog.

So sorry for your loss we had to put our dog down earlier this year it is such a hard decision regardless of the reasons Riley had a good life and you can be blessed in knowing there is no more pain and he is at peace with his sister -
you can read the dedication for our dog here if you wish - http://glittergluetoo.blogspot.com/2011/02/good-bye-sabar-we-all-miss-you.html
it is such a hard time and we are still missing him so much- so is our cat he meows all day if I am not with him.

I too am so sorry for your loss, we lost one of ours a little over a year ago and I know how very difficult it can be. I love your little note at the end, my sister's dog will need the same reminder... Hugs to you all!
